Uranium Oxide was popular as a reddish orange glaze for ceramics - this pigment also emitted radiation. During the WWII the US government confiscated all uranium oxide to be used for bomb development. Afterwards, it was used for regular goods again and became wildly popular in the 60's - most famously in Fiestaware  Now Fiestaware with trace amounts of Uranium has become a highly sought after collectors item!
