About our Pre-orders

At Destination Yarn we take pre-orders and dyed to order items very seriously. 
In nearly 15 years of business we have never, ever been late in shipping a pre-order, curated box, or club shipment.

We follow the following policies so that we ALWAYS ship on time:

For all pre-orders the ship date will be listed in bold at the bottom of the listing.  Please read carefully.  Sometimes there are two ship dates depending on when you place your order.

We limit the amount of pre-orders that we sell.  That way we always know that we can dye the pre-orders in the timeframe stated on the listing.  Unfortunately this does mean that pre-orders can and do sell out.  We would rather have something sell out quickly than not be able to deliver in the timeframe that was promised!

We never sell a skein for pre-order that we don’t already have in the studio.  If we are sold out of that base yarn, we will not offer it for pre-order.  If we are sold out of mini skeins, we do not offer them for pre-order.  Again this often means that pre-orders will sell out.  However with the supply chain issues being a constant problem since 2020 we do not want to take a chance of not being able to get your order out on time.

We always limit the timeframe of a pre-order to less than 90 days.  This means we are always within the window of a credit card or paypal chargeback.  This protects both us and our customers in case of an unforeseen disaster.

We do not offer a colorway ready to ship until all of the outstanding pre-orders for that colorway have left our studio.  Once the pre-orders have shipped we will list any additional skeins as ready to ship.

We believe that as a small business pre-orders are the absolute best way to offer new collections and colorways for the following reasons:  

We are unable to carry the inventory to have every new color in a collection available in a sweater quantity in every base yarn.  Here’s the math: Just with our Holiday 2023 collection 12 colorways x 17 bases x 6 needed for a sweater would mean 1,224 skeins of yarn!  That simply isn’t possible at our current scale of business.

We often don’t know which colorway will be the breakout star.  With pre-orders we can direct our dying time to the colorway that everyone is clamoring for.

We are not huge fans of watch the clock style updates.  It’s frustrating and we try not to do very many of them.  With pre-orders you can take your time and shop without stress!

Project planning!  It’s way easier to plan for a project when you can get exactly the type, color, and quantity of skeins needed for your specific project.
