Stirling Castle Set

The Cheviot featured in this yarn were raised and shorn in the Midwest. Featuring all small businesses, Cheviot Limited is created from sheep to skein within a 250 mile radius!  

Originally hailing from the Cheviot Hills on the border between England and Scotland, Cheviot sheep produce a fleece that is highly durable and lofty. Traditionally used for wool tartans, the natural helical crimp of this wool means that it resists felting. It is springy, lofty, and heavy for an exquisite hand.  The natural lanolin, and slight thick and thin quality, makes this yarn absolutely lovely to work with.

This yarn was designed by Amy Ross Manko from The Ross Farm.  Amy began this yarn project for two reasons: to provide an outlet for small family farmers to sell their wool clip for a fair price and provide a beautiful product for a lucky indie dyer to create a locally sourced, American made yarn that supports small farms in our industry.

Cheviot Limited was processed at the Zeilinger Wool Company Fiber Mill in Michigan. This fourth generation, natural fiber mill has been processing wool for over 100 years! They worked with Amy to spin the Cheviot to her exact specifications. The result is a truly unique yarn! 

Dyed by Jeanne Stevenson of Destination yarn, this color palette was inspired by the original home of Cheviot sheep - Scotland.  The result was seven colorways that work together in any combination. Dyed using our layered, tonal technique the result is slight variations in depth of shade through the skein.  Perfect for heavily patterned stitches or colorwork!

Knitwear designer Shannon Okey was also inspired by Scotland with her design for the Stitchill Sweater. She named this sweater after a small Scottish village where several of her more... interesting ancestors lived. Her 10x great grandmother Agnes Lamb—yes, that was really her name—beat up the local sheriff when he came to collect a debt, and her girl gang helped. This is all documented in the records of the local baron’s court!
