Few stories are as legendary as the Chisholm Trail!  After the Civil War, thousands of cowboys drove Texas longhorns north along this rugged route to the railheads in Kansas. Dusty, dangerous, and iconic, it was the path that carried the cowboy spirit into American lore.

To capture that feeling, I built the palette from the rich blues of the Texas sky and worn denim, then added in the coppery reds of the longhorns and leather saddles.  Sun-washed golds and steel gray tones anchor the mix, evoking wagon wheels, worn tack, and the grit of the trail itself.

There are so many colors in these skeins! To get the look I wanted, I layered richer colors over brighter ones.  This is a technique I learned in watercolor painting - Letting the bright shades peek through the darker ones creates a glowing effect.  Perfect for capturing the glowing light of the Texas landscape!

Pairs with:  Any of the colorways in our Chisholm Trail collection!  Wide Open Spaces is perfect for a variegated option, or try Midnight Clear or Terra Cotta for a more tonal look.
