Dye Technique: Adventure (speckle dyed)
Dye is applied directly to the skein allowing for pops of intense color. Colorways are repeatable but because of the way that the color is applied every skein is completely unique. At Destination Yarn we call these our “Adventure” colorways because creating one is an adventure!
Pairs With: Rainy Afternoon, Mulled Wine
The Cormo Ewes featured in this yarn were raised and shorn in Pennsylvania and Maryland on small, female owned farms.
Cormo fleece range from 17-23 microns, making it very soft and desirable for next to skin items. The natural lanolin, and slight thick and thin quality, makes this yarn absolutely lovely to work with.
This yarn was designed by Amy Ross Manko from The Ross Farm. Amy began this yarn project for two reasons: to provide an outlet for small family farmers to sell their wool clip for a fair price and provide a beautiful product for a lucky indie dyer to create a locally sourced, American made yarn that supports females in our industry. Amy bought fleeces from her female shepherd friends, designed this base, and worked with the mill to spin it to her specifications. The result is a truly unique yarn!
The Cormo Ewes were shorn by internationally ranked shearer, Emily Chamelin-Hickman. Emily travels the US shearing flocks of all breeds, but lives in Maryland with her flock of Cheviot sheep. She participates in shearing competitions worldwide and is ranked among female shearers (and men as well)! As a professional shearer, she demonstrates her skills at Maryland Sheep and Wool by shearing for the public.
The fiber for this yarn was processed by mother-daughter team, Angie and Ashley Shaw. These outstanding women operate the Blue Mountain Fiber Mill in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Their Talent and attention to detail makes for amazing loftiness, twist and warmth in their product. You can feel and see the love and care they put into every run.
Dyed by Jeanne Stevenson of Destination yarn, this color palette was designed to be simple and rich. The result was four, classic tonal colorways that work together in any combination. Dyed using our layered, tonal technique the result is slight variations in depth of shade through the skein. Perfect for heavily patterned stitches or colorwork!
Knitwear designer Tanis Gray designed the Mod Pullover to feature this lovely yarn. This fun, mod sweater has a simple yet stunning colorwork yoke featuring a mod inspired pattern. German short rows raise up the back neck and colorwork details accent the cuffs and bottom edge I love the vintage, cool vibe of the colorwork yoke. Very retro ski-slope!
